More Time for Dragonflies

People who love dragonflies love beauty, and most of us love to be outdoors in the natural world.

One of my favorite memories is of watching clouds of dragonflies flitting above a tiny pond, really just a large puddle in the woods at a wildlife refuge near Katy, Texas. The light filtered through the trees, reflecting off beautiful iridescent dragonfly wings of all colors, like a scene from a fairy tale.

Most of us cannot spend as much time outside as we would like, and some of us live in places where weather can be very harsh in the summer or winter, severely limiting our outdoor time. So what do we do?

We try to make our homes as efficient as possible with good quality appliances and other time-savesrs so that we have more time to get outside. In good weather we want household chores to consume as little time as possible. So we have more time to go out in the field and watch dragonflies in the wild.

Those of us who enjoy hiking to remote ponds and streams to see unusual dragonfly species in their native habitat know how time-consuming it can be to wash muddy clothes and gear after a dragonfly-watching trip if your washer and dryer are old and slow. If you have to wash sleeping bags especially, it can be difficult to get them clean and then to get them completely dry for storage.

If that is your situation, you there is no need to spend many hours trekking from one store to another, shopping for new appliances. You can easily find what you need on line at www.canadapost.ca/shopper/washers-laundry-washing-machines/sc/251

Lucky are those of us who have an efficient washer and dryer to speed the post-expedition clean-up so we can be ready for next time.

The dragonflies are out there. And we want to have time to visit them all.
