A Real Rarity

Yesterday Sue & I led a tour of IMO the best New Forest dragonfly location for members of UK Dragonflies Forum. 16 species in all, including the rare Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly of which the above is a female in transition from the immature aurantiaca and the mature form.

The aurantiaca is considered a real find, but this one takes the prize as several enthusiaists have never seen one in transition before. Having not photographed a female of any type before, I’m more than made up with this one. Definitely the highlight of a tuly superb afternoon.
