Dew Diligence

I had a day planned being joint guide with Doug on a Dorset Wilflife Trust dragonfly outing, and as the meeting time was 10.00am I went out early to find the Red-veined Darters which have successfully bred this season.

The migrant adults were present back in May, and due to their remarkable life-cycle have already produced imago offspring. There were several tenerals rising from the breeding pool to fly out of reach, but this immature male stayed around long enough for a shot or two.

Incidentally – there is nothing wrong with his wings; it’s merely the angle and the DoF

Extraordinary to find a male Emperor patrolling across the water at 07.30am!

If you look very closely at the dew drop, you can see the hazy reflection of the fellow with the camera…
