Downy Emerald (Cordulia aenea)

View On Black

Today – and every Tuesday for that matter – will hence be known as ‘Dragonfly Tuesday’
Two weeks ago I shot my first Large Red Damsels of the season. last Tuesday I encountered my first Broad-bodied Chaser of the season, and today I was lucky enough to encounter my first ever Downy Emerald.

This was one of the species we needed to get this year and felt a little apprehensive due to their scarcity in the New Forest and their reputation as difficult to find when perched. Luckily it was a windy day and this immature specimen was found hiding low down among the heather and grass.

So I am officially buzzing today, and thanks to Dave (DJL Dorset) for the good omen.
