Downy Emerald In Flight

Some of you may know this was one of the species I was desperately hoping to see this year, and was very lucky to find a recently emerged specimen going back a month ago. Since then I’ve been lucky to see quite a few – in fact there are two in residence on our favourite pond.

Problem is as adults they are constantly on the move and never appear to land. I’ve watched an individual patrolling for 2 solid hours before now. Where do they get the energy? So the best option is try to get an in-flight shot – which consider the speed these little devils fly at – is a challenge.And I like a challenge…
