A Four-spotted Pennant at Bob Jones Park in Southlake, Texas on August 9, 2013.
I probably won’t be getting many more dragonfly photos this summer. The pond at Bob Jones Park was my favorite spot. Sometimes I would see hundreds of dragonflies here and as many as a dozen different species. Recently, the park maintenance crew mowed down nearly all of the vegetation right up to the edge of the water. The pond is primarily a public fishing pond and they want to reduce the risk of snakes. Unfortunately, it destroys the habitat for dragonflies. The last time I went out there, 90% of the dragonflies had disappeared. The same thing happened last summer.
