Golden-Ringed Dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii)

View On Black

It was an absolute pleasure to see a couple of these on Sunday – the first I’ve ever seen – and a welcome change from the lovely but getting-too-familiar Broad Bodied and the frustrating Emperor (damn things won’t stay still!)

There were three other photographers with oodles of kit gesticulating wildly trying to get a shot, but it was only when they left (they’d been there four hours) did the above specimen relax and perch perfectly allowing me to get far too close and personal.

A beautiful Dragonfly you must admit!

Taken with Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG macro
Manual focus. Hand held.

Explored: Highest position: 32 on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Thanks to everyone who have taken the time to comment!
