These skimmers are rare around here though they’re common down in Florida. I’ve only seen 2 in N. Georgia and both were at the wetlands. I spotted this guy hiding waaay off-trail thanks to those golden wings. I don’t like going off-trail at the wetlands but had to get closer. This species likes to perch behind stems like this.

Rain update: parts of our county had 10 inches of rain yesterday. Our weatherman said that 10 inches of rain on one acre = 270,000 gallons of rain. I was out driving and things were a mess. More rain coming … hope it’s sunny where you are.
